But what does this mean?

Youth led media – what does that mean?

It means our office is full of young people helping us to run YH World, coming up with ideas, being brilliant ( and regularly infuriating too ). This means that media professionals volunteer for us and help us take those ideas from good to brilliant and that means we know what we’re talking about when it comes to youth communications.

87 Young people have received training, mentoring or work experience. 4 young people have gone on to win funding for projects which we’ve delivered with them including making a short film, Politics and youth engagement, an anti knife crime event and  advertising training course to promote the other projects! We’ve also paid over 30 young people.

How are we different?

Our website YH World is produced by a network of young creatives with no agenda other than to uncover and share opportunities with other young Londoners. Funded projects allow us to try out new forms of media and work with harder to reach young people and your money allows us to pay the right creatives to deliver on your brief.

How do we invest in our journalists?

We run regular 1/2 day training session in writing for the web and uploading CMS. Poached Creative have a full 6 week structured journalism course that our work experience peeps can access and we find mentors and placements for those journalists who prove their worth. This year we’ve also run training in: Video production and editing, script writing, marketing, advertising, spelling and grammar and interview techniques.

But seriously. What are our core objectives?

  • work experience, training and  paid work for young creatives
  • innovative youth communications to drive engagement and participation
  • skill specific volunteering opportunities for the media industry

We believe that talented creative young people are best placed to drive youth communication.  We also believe in investing in these young people and plotting their route to work, as they work to positively influence their peers.

The young people we work with come from diverse backgrounds; ex-offenders, long-term unemployed, those in degrees or full time employment with ambition to change career.  They receive basic training then our young creatives cut their teeth providing content for their peers writing about positive opportunities for our website YH World

We run a program of media training and talks from professionals and offer ongoing development and support.
